DHAKA: Farhana Rahman, a meritorious student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Bashundhara branch, can now carry on her studies carefree with her tutelage insured by Bashundhara Foundation.
Founded by big business-house Bashundhara Group, the foundation, which helps deprived and talented students under its charitable scheme, granted her a monthly stipend of Tk 3,000 to bear her educational expenses.
Yeasha Sobhan, Director of Bashundhara Group, on behalf of the Foundation handed over a cheque for the charity money and a laptop to Farhana Monday. Sabrina Sobhan, another Director of the Group, was present on the occasion.
Farhana’s family have long been facing financial problem, which compelled them to stop her schooling. To continue her education Farhana’s family urged Bashundhara Group for financial help, which was immediately granted as Bashundhara Group gives “top priority to education”, company officials said.
Bashundhara Group, country’s leading business conglomerate, runs the charity as part of its corporate social responsibility programme. They also contribute to the “economic emancipation of the poor and thereby help the government in its poverty-alleviation drive”, the officials said.
