Road crashes kill 5 in 5 districts

DHAKA: Five people were killed in separate road accidents in Natore, Khagrachhari, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria and Comilla districts Tuesday.

In Natore, a speedy bus knocked down a motorbike in Dakmara area on the Rajshahi-Natore Highway at about 10 am, killing the bike rider on the spot.

The deceased was identified as Khalilur Rahman, 35, of village Dastanabad.

Enraged by the accidents, blamed on inefficient and reckless driving, a mob put up barricade on the highway. Later, they removed the barricade on assurance by the administration to take necessary steps in this regard.  

In Khagrachhari, a man was killed in a head-on collision between two motorbikes in Bhuachhari Army camp area at about 11 am.

The victim was identified as Amar Joty Chakma, 25, son of Bir Bahu Chakma of village Itchhari.

In Habiganj, a truck skidded off and fell into a roadside field near Alipur rail gate in the morning, leaving its helper dead.

The deceased was identified as, Shipon Mia, 22, son of Liakat Ali of village Badpukuria under Jhenidah Sadar Upazila.

In Brahmanbaria, a schoolboy was run over by a tempo at Kalikachchha on Sarial-Nasirnagar road.

Momen Mia, 14, student of Kalikachchha Pathshala High School, met the tragic end of his life while crossing the road.

The accident sparked off strong protest as the students of the school blockaded the road, disrupting traffic for one-and-a-half hours. The angry students also damaged glasses of some vehicles.

On information, Police rushed in and quelled the situation.

In Comilla, a truck rammed into a private car on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Chouddogram upazila in the morning, killing the driver of the private car on the spot.
