Charge sheet on crimes during BDR mutiny in couple of days

DHAKA: The Criminal Investigation Department of police has finalized charges against 824 of the BDR mutineers for committing various crimes at the Pilkhana headquarters of the border force and could submit those in a couple of days.

Competent sources said 25 out of the big group, including 5 Deputy Assistant Directors (DAD), have been detected as the “main planners” and another 60 as “killers”.

Additionally, they added, detained BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu and Awami League’s Torab Ali are going to be charged.

Investigation officer of the case Senior Special Superintendent of CID Abdul Kahar Akand confirmed the process of pressing the charges against the accused.

In the charge sheet locals of the area adjacent to Pilkhana have been made witnesses. The Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the former Chief of Army Staff also may have to testify in this regard, the sources said.

“The charge sheet may be submitted to the court within two or three days,” said one source.

The charges were framed against the accused for their part in the Feb 25-26, 2009 mass mutiny in the border force that left 74 people, including 57 army officers, dead and the BDR headquarters ransacked.
