DHAKA: A special court Sunday ordered the arrest of 735 suspected mutineers from Sadar Rifles Battalion and producing them on Monday morning to stand trial, being held in phases at different BDR garrisons across the country.
The special court-6, led by BDR Director-General Major-General Rafiqul Islam, was adjourned till 10am Monday after the opening day’s proceedings.
Of the total, 437 personnel are still in service while 298 others in different cells following after they were run in following the February 25-26, 2009 mutiny at the Pilkhana headquarters and different other garrisons of the border force.
The court took up the trial process at Pilkhana at about 10:30am and continued till 1:00pm.
Later, Lt Col Badrul Alam, commander of Sadar Rifles Battalion, told reporters that the mutineers were issued arrest warrants on charge of “violating BDR rules and instigating mutiny”.
