DHAKA: Police Tuesday picked up Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary-general Abdul Quader Molla from the High Court premises.
“A group of detective police picked him up from Gate 2 of the High Court at around 4:10pm,” banglanews24.com.bd Staff Correspondent Jakia Ahmed reported from the scene.
Krishnapada Roy, Deputy Commissioner (Ramna) of Police, confirmed the arrest of the fourth top Jamaat leader under the current crackdown on the Islamic political party and said, “Molla was arrested on a specific charge.”
Molla went to the High Court to appear for the hearing of a case filed with Keraniganj police station for the killing of a freedom fighter, in which he received an order that asks police not to arrest or harass him.
“He was arrested not for the case filed in Keraniganj police station but on a different but specific charge,” said Roy.
He wouldn’t elaborate.
Police sources said the plainclothes cops may nab another senior Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, who is also inside the High Court compound.
