DHAKA: Ramna thana OC Shibli Noman and SI Altaf Hossain along with five others were Wednesday sued on a murder charge in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, amid a row over ‘custodial deaths’.
Nasima Akhter Shubho, a resident of 327/A, Maghbazar, filed the case with the CMM Court Wednesday seeking justice in the ‘killing” of her husband.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan Talukder recorded the statement of the plaintiff and ordered judicial investigation into the allegation.
The court also asked for submitting the probe report on August 16 after conducting the investigation.
The other accused are constables Siraj, Hiron and Nannu and police informants Anisur Rahman and Shahadat.
In her case statement Nasima alleged that RAB-3 DAD Golam Mostafa few days ago held two drivers along with two CNG-run auto-rickshaws from a garage in the area where her auto-rickshaw-driver husband Babul Kazi used to keep his three-wheeler.
“As my husband (Babul) went to mange the matter, SI Altaf Hossain demanded Tk 2 lakh from him,” she stated in the case.
“My husband gave them Tk 70,000 on various occasions. But, on June 28, the accused persons held my husband and beat him to death for the rest of the money,” Nasima said in her allegation.
Babul Kazi’s death is one of three alleged custodial deaths in the capital in recent times that drew stern orders from the High Court for investigation and deterrent action against those responsible.
