DHAKA: Health condition of eminent politician and former BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, suffering from lung cancer, was deteriorated on Thursday morning.
“Mannan’s physical condition was slightly deteriorated,” chief of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Square Hospital Dr. Mirza Nazim Uddin told reporters Thursday noon.
He said Mannan’s treatment was underway under observation of a 10-member medical team.
“We hope his condition would improve, but, it was deteriorated from Thursday morning.”
His oxygen intake also reduced Thursday, said the doctor.
Mannan was admitted to the Square Hospital due to lung cancer on July 7. Since then he is on life-support for breathing.
Earlier, he was taken to Singapore on May 31 for treatment.
His family members said Bhuiyan was given chemotherapy.
Bhuiyan was BNP`s secretary general for 11 years and served as the LGRD and cooperatives minister of the BNP-led government.
He was expelled from BNP on September 3, 2007, just before party chief Khaleda Zia was arrested during the emergency period.
