Dhaka: The High Court Tuesday declined to grant bail to Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan alias Shah Alam in a bunch of seven cases and asked the owner of the big business house to surrender before the lower court within eight weeks.
An HC bench comprising justices Samsul Huda and Abu Bakar Siddiqui passed the orders after hearing the petitions moved analogous.
The court, however, ordered the law-enforcing agencies not to “harass or arrest” Shah Alam during this eight-week period of indemnity.
According to sources, the BG chairman Tuesday appeared before the court in person seeking bail in seven cases filed against him on various charges (murder, land grabbing and bribery).
Police and different individuals filed the cases with Badda and Ramna police stations in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Barrister Fazle Nur Tapash MP fought for the petitioner while Assistant Attorney-General Bashir Ullah was on the state side.
