DHAKA: A Dhaka Court Thursday rejected the bail petitions of Mahmudur Rahman, the acting editor of the recently closed Bengali daily Amar Desh, in connection with three cases.
With permission of the court, Mahmudur Rahman spoke out in the court about what happened to him during interrogation on repeated remand. He alleged that he was “tortured” during interrogation in TIF cell.
However, the public prosecutor (PP) ruled out the allegation.
Acting Judge Mohammad Ismail Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judges Court passed the orders upon bail petitions filed by Mahmud’s lawyer Belal Hossain against the previous rejection orders of a lower court.
The cases were filed against him for “preventing police from discharging their duties”, his connection with the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir, and sedition with Kotwali, Uttara and Biman Bandar police stations respectively.
Belal Hossain later said the court asked the jail authorities to take necessary measures as per jail code after they appealed for providing Mahmudur with proper medical treatment.
