DHAKA: A special court framed charges against a big band of 667 suspected BDR mutineers of the 24 Rifles Battalion after recording depositions made by witnesses on Saturday at the Pilkhana headquarters of the border force.

The court resumed proceedings at about 9am and continued till 3pm.

The Special Court-5, led by newly appointed Director-General of Bangladesh Rifles Major-General Rafiqul Islam, formally charged the suspects with playing a part in the mass mutiny.

After the indictment, the court adjourned the proceedings of trial till September 4.

Out of the total accused, 29 pleaded guilty.

The charges were framed against the accused for their part in the Feb 25-26, 2009 mass mutiny in the border force that left 74 people, including 57 army officers, dead and the BDR headquarters ransacked.

The court exempted one in this group of rebels, Naik Jainal Abedin, from the charges as he died in the meantime.
