DHAKA: Opposition BNP claimed that the countrywide hartal it called to protest government’s “misrule” was observed successfully, sending a warning for the rulers.
“Spontaneous participation of the people proved that the hartal is cent-percent successful," BNP secretary-general Khandaker Delwar Hossain said at a press briefing on Sunday morning at the party`s Naya Paltan office.
He said, “The ruling party failed to do anything for the mass people, and for the country’s democracy and sovereignty as well.”
Demanding unconditional release of the leaders and activists held during the strike, the BNP leader said, “Our movement will also be tougher if the government increases oppression.”
Dr Mosharraf Hossain, member of the BNP standing committee, Aman Ullah Aman, joint secretary-general, Rezvi Ahammed, Zoinal Abedin Faruqke, Opposition Chief Whip, and Nazimuddin Alam were also present.
