DHAKA: Jamaat Secretary-General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojahid and Nayab-e Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee were taken in the BD office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Thursday evening for interrogation over recent developments.

They were taken at about 5:20pm for interrogating in a case filed with Paltan Thana accusing them of obstructing police from doing their duty ahead of June 19 opposition grand rally in the capital.

Earlier in the day, the two Jamaat leaders were taken under custody of Paltan Thana police for quizzing in the same case.

Jamaat Ameer Moulana Matiur Rahman Nizami was not taken in for his illness though he was also accused in same cases.

Earlier on Wednesday, police took the three top leaders of Jamaat on 16 days’ remand in five cases, a day after their arrest in a case of allegedly hurting Muslims’ religious sentiment.

“According to court direction, Mojahid and Sayedee were sent into police custody for interrogation from Dhaka Central Jail,” said Paltan thana OC Shahidul Haque.

Meanwhile, jail sources said Nizami appealed to the jail authority for not handing him over to police claiming himself ill.
