DHAKA: Detectives began interrogating Jamaat Secretary-General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojahid and Nayab-e Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee at the DB headquarters Friday on the second day of remand in a case of allegedly obstructing police duties—a charge they denied.

They were taken in the BD office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Thursday evening for interrogation over issues of recent developments on the political front.

Meanwhile, another accused of the case, Jamaat Ameer Moulana Matiur Rahman Nizami, was not taken out from the central jail for his illness. But he might face quizzing next Saturday, said DB officials.

Earlier on Wednesday, police took the three top leaders of Jamaat on 16 days’ remand in five cases, a day after their arrest in a case of allegedly hurting Muslims’ religious sentiment.

Monirul Islam, deputy police commissioner of DB’s South block, told banglanews24.com.bd that they were interrogating Mojahid and Sayedee together like general prisoner from 9am to 11:45 Friday in the presence of Paltan Thana sub-inspector Zillur Rahman, the investigation officer of the case.

“The integration again started after lunch break and Juma prayer,” he added.

On February 17, police filed the case with Paltan Thana against them on charge of rioting and assault on police.

One source of the interrogation cell, on condition of anonymity, said that they were quizzing the two leaders over the February 17 incident.

“Replying to a query, Mojahid said he didn’t know whether the February 17 incident occurred at all at the direction of Jamaat high command,” the official added.

During interrogation, Sayedee also said that he, too, did not know anything regarding the incident.

Investigation officer Zillur Rahman said that the two were being interrogated tactfully to scoop out the fact. “We are very conscious about human rights during interrogation,” he added.
