DHAKA: A Dhaka court fixed August 2 for submitting probe report in a case of freedom-fighter killings at Keraniganj in 1971, in which the two top-most Jamaat leaders are implicated.
Chief judicial magistrate Taiyabul Hasan asked Keraniganj police to submit the report after Jamaat Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami and secretary-general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, the two main accused in the case, were produced in the court Sunday.
On December 31 in 2007, Dhaka district freedom fighters` unit commander Mozaffar Ahmed Khan filed the case against some 60/70 persons, including leaders of Jamaat.
The case statement says, “Pakistani collaborator Al Badr killed freedom fighter Osman Ghani at Keraniganj during the Liberation War at the behest of the accused.”
Police arrested Nizami, Mojaheed and Jamaat central Nayeb-e Ameer Delwar Hossain Saydee on June 29. They have been remanded for 16 days in five cases.
Later on June 30, the three were shown arrested in the Keraniganj freedom-fighter-murder case.
