Today (Nov 20) is the 60th birthday of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Tarique, the eldest son of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and its Chairperson Khaleda Zia, was born on November 20, 1965 in Bogura.
Tarique Rahman instructed them not to hold any events this year, although party leaders and activists across the country had planned to celebrate the occasion with grand programs.
On November 11, BNP issued a formal statement directing its members not to organize any celebrations for Tarique Rahman’s birthday. Signed by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the statement warned that organizational action would be taken against those violating the directive.
Tarique Rahman, the eldest son of late President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, joined politics in 1988 as a member of BNP’s Gabtoli upazila unit in Bogura district at the age of 22. Even before formally joining the party, he was active in politics.
Since February 8, 2018, when BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was jailed, Tarique Rahman has been serving as the party’s acting chairman from the UK. He regularly participates in party programs virtually and delivers directives to leaders and activists.
