DHAKA: Main opposition BNP’s Senior Joint-Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday bitterly criticized, what he said, ‘undemocratic behaviour’ by the government to foil the opposition’s human chain demonstration.
The allegation came from a press conference at BNP’s Central office at Naya Paltan.
He said, “We wanted to form human chain demonstration in peaceful way. But police did not to allow us to demonstrate.”
“Forming human chain is a democratic right. The attitude of the government is autocratic,” he said.
He also condemned that BNP leaders and activists were barred and attacked on their ways to join the demonstration that left over 200 people injured by activists of Chhatra League, Jubo League and police.
He also claimed that an activist of the party, Enamul, was beaten to death in Naogaon.
Vice-chairman of Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Abdullah Al Noman, Selima Rahman, Joint-Secretary General Amanullah Aman, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Chief Whip of the opposition Zainul Abdin Farruque, among others, were also present.
