DHAKA: Police Wednesday intercepted leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami in city’s different parts from staging demonstration protesting the arrest of top party leaders.
On the second day of three-day party programme, Jamaat staged demonstration in Jatrabari, Mohammadpur, Mirpur and Malibagh rail crossing areas in the city Wednesday afternoon.
Nurul Islam Bulbul, publicity secretary of city Jamaat, told banglanews24.com.bd alleged that police obstructed their demonstration but did not make any arrest till 4.30pm.
Jamaat Ameer Maitur Rahman Nizami, Secretary-General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed and Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee were arrested on June 29 on charge of hurting Muslim religious sentiments.
The party’s assistant secretaries general Muhammad Qamaruzzaman and Abdul Quader Mollah were also held Tuesday at the High Court gate for their alleged crimes during 1971 Liberation War.
