Hearing on Khaleda’s pleas deferred again

DHAKA: The Appellate Division on Thursday re-fixed September 1 for hearing of two appeals made by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging the rejection order of two writ petitions by the High Court in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable graft cases.

A five-member SC full bench headed-by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain re-fixed the new dates in response to Khaleda Zia’s pleas as she didn’t get the full copy of HC verdict.

Earlier on July 13, the SC had re-fixed July 21 and 24 as the hearing date of two different appeal pleas filed by the BNP Chairperson with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

On June 19, a single bench of Justice Kazi Reza-ul Haque of the High Court rejected the writ petition filed by Khaleda Zia on May 12 challenging legality of judge appointment of Zia Charitable Trust and Orphanage Trust graft cases.

On the other hand, on April 13, Khaleda Zia filed a review petition with the HC seeking cancellation of indictment order.

On April 23, an HC bench comprising Justice Borhanuddin and Justice AKM Quamrul Quader rejected the appeal.
