DCs not to get declaration canceling power: Inu

DHAKA: Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu has ruled out the rumour of giving declaration canceling power to deputy commissioners (DCs).

“The news of giving declaration canceling power published in different national dailies is not true,” he said.

The information minister came up with the assertion at a press conference at information department conference room on Thursday.

He said, “The Printing Press and Publications (Declaration and Registration) Act-1973 where a section included that DC’s have power to cancel the newspapers declaration but after 1990 the section had withdrawn.”

The lawmaker said the government does not formulate any law to control newspapers.

However, 1973 act will be reformed, he added.
