BD itself needs to solve political crisis

DHAKA: United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Neal Walker on Sunday said Bangladesh itself has to solve the political problems.

He came up with the observation in response to a query of journalists at a programme at National Press Club.

In reply to another question whether UN would interfere to hold dialogue between two political parties, Neal Walker said, Bangladesh is a democratic country. So, the leaders of the two political have to solve their problem and the UN would not interfere, he added.

However, he declined to reply on a question whether it is needed to hold another election soon as per BNP demand.

In regard of the verdicts of International Crimes Tribunal, he said the UN does not support death penalty. But, they want trial of crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in 1971.

Neal Walker also applauded Bangladesh and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for contributing in achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
