DHAKA: Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), banned Islamic outfit, had a plan to bombing in Eid congregations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) made the disclosure in a press briefing at its Media Center in the city on Thursday noon.
DMP Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam revealed the information after arresting three suspected militants of JMB from city’s Sayedabad area.
The arrestees are Shamin Mahfuz alias Sumon, 38, Jahidur Rahman, 33, and Ismail Hossain, 39.
Sources said, acting on a tip-off, a Detective Branch (DB) team, led by assistant commissioner Mahmuda Afroz Lucky, conducted a drive at Sayedabad Bus Terminal and arrested them around 8:00am.
They were involved in the activities of outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, according to the DB.
DMP deputy commissioner of DB Krishna Pada Roy, Sheikh Nazmul Alam, Jahangir Alam Matabbar and additional deputy commissioner Sanwar Hossain were, among others, present at the press meet.
