DHAKA: A Dhaka court Monday placed Jamaat Ameer Matiur Rahman Mizami and Secretary-General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed on three days remand in a terrorism case filed with Kadamtali thana in the capital.
Metropolitan Magistrate Roksana Begum Happy issued the order after the investigation officer of the case, DB inspector Sheikh Mahbubur Rahman, produced them in the court with 10 days’ remand prayer for each.
Earlier on July 23, Jamaat leaders Nizami, Mojahid and Delwar Hossain Sayedee were shown arrested in the case filed with Kadomtoli thana on May 23.
A special police team on May 23 raided an apartment in Dania in Dhaka and eight persons, including a few policemen, were wounded when the militants hurled grenades at them.
Later on May 26, police in a special drive arrested two JMB members--Amir Hossain alias Sharif and Nur Hossain alias Sabuj-- from Painadi area of Siddhirganj under Narayanganj Sadar Upazila.
“After interrogating the arrested JMB leaders, it was discovered that the organisation had links with the Jamaat-e-Islami,” a source said, quoting the investigators.
Nizami and Mojaheed were arrested on June 29 on charges of hurting religious sentiments of Muslims through their blasphemous comments.
