DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that government has made a mistake by not giving state-honor to the Language Movement hero late Abdul Matin.
He came up with this assertion in reply to a query from a journalist on Thursday morning on Central Shaheed Minar premises while paying tribute to Matin.
He also said it was government’s duty to pay state-honor to this late Language Movement hero who is widely respected as ‘Bhasha Matin’.
The nation, including BNP people, expected this but government did not do it, he added.
Demanding state-honor for Matin, the BNP leader said that Matin was a legendary Language activist. He worked for the betterment of the country. Nation will not fill the vacuum created by his demise.
Senior BNP leaders MK Anwar, Mirza Abbas and Dr Osman Faruk, among others, were present at the event.
