DHAKA: Awami League (AL) will serve a show-cause notice to Abdul Latif Siddique Tuesday asking him to explain why he should not be expelled from the party permanently.
AL sources said the party decided to send the notice by post according to its constitution and asked Latif Siddique to reply within seven days.
According to AL’s constitution, the notice is to send by post. For this reason, it will be sent through proper way on Tuesday.
Prime Minister, also AL president, Sheikh Hasina approved the notice when the draft copy was taken to her on Monday. Later, AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam signed it on Monday evening.
On Sunday, government issued a gazette notification discharging former post telecommunications and ICT minister Abdul Latif Siddique from his duty. Ruling AL relieved him from the party presidium and suspended his primary membership of the party on that day.
On September 29, Latif Siddique made derogatory comments on hajj and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Tablighi Jamaat that sparked protest and mixed reactions home and abroad.
Latif Siddique said he was against Hajj and Tablig and that the hajj is wastage of valuable money and manpower.
