DHAKA: BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday alleged that the government is detaining leaders and activists across the country “out of unknown fear”.
The spokesperson for the party made the allegation in a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the city.
Earlier in the morning, Mohammadpur Thana Police detained 64 BNP leaders and activists, including Jubo Dal President Moazzem Hossain Alal.
Rizvi also criticized the government saying it was behaving like a “driven away wolf” and demanded release of the detained leaders and activists soon.
He also said leaders and activists of the party could go to the house of a leader like Alal at anytime. “But it is not acceptable that government will detain them,” he said.
The “illegal government” is trying to extend its reign by detaining, killing, kidnapping and torturing people.
He also forewarned the government saying the government would be ousted by movements if it does not stop its illegal activities.
City BNP member secretary Habibunnabi Khan Sohel and central BNP treasurer Abdus Salam also were present at the press meet.
