RANGPUR: Law enforcers, in separate drives, arrested 508 people, including 32 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhattra Shibir across Rangpur division to prevent possible atrocities.
Police nabbed them from different upazilas of the eights districts of the division sometimes between Sunday evening and Tuesday morning.
Rangpur Detective Branch official Sariful Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Police, in separate drives, nabbed some 252 people in 1st phase and 256 others in second phase from eight districts of the divisions. All are accused in different cases.
They were held from Kaunia, Pirgachha, Gangachhara, Taraganj, Badarganj, Pirgangj and Sadar upazilas of Rangpur district and the adjacent districts.
Most of the captives are accused in different cases related to mugging, robbing, drug dealings and others. During the drives, police also recovered hemp, Phensedyl, Yaba tablets, and different types of drugs.
Rangpur Kotwali Thana Officer-In-Charge Abdul Kader Jilani told banglanews, all the arrestees were sent to jail after producing them before the court.
