DHAKA: BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said HM Ershad does not have rights to make any comment on later president Ziaur Rahman.
The BNP leader was addressing a discussion organized by Jatiyatabadi Swechhasebak Dal (JSD) at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the city.
Fakhrul ridiculed at Ersahd, a special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, saying that he (Ersahd) is a newly freedom fighter; he stayed at Pakistan during the War of Independence in 1971.
He said, “So, Ershad has no rights to make comment on Ziaur Rhman.”
Terming ruling Awami League (AL) a party that stays out (the sense) of the country’s independence and sovereignty, he said AL talks about the democracy but does not believe in works.
The government changed its strategies, destroyed all democratic institutions in guise of democracy and established ‘BAKSAL’, one-party rule, he added.
With JSD president Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, BNP joint-secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, economic affairs secretary Abdus Salam and JSD general secretary Shafiqul Bari Babu.
The JSD organized the discussion marking the November 7 as the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
