GOPALGANJ: Members of the Awami League central working committee, advisory council and cabinet paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman placing wreath at his tomb at Tungipara Saturday, a day ahead of the 35th anniversary of his demise.
The ruling-party leaders, led by Chief Whip Abdus Shahid, also offered fateha and special munazat during the programme for the country’s architect, who, along with most members of his family, was brutally assassinated by some disgruntled army men on August 15 in 1975.
Speaking after the tribute-paying ceremonies, party general secretary and LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam hoped that the verdict of the Bangabandhu murder case would be executed fully by bringing back the remaining fugitives.
“The government is trying through foreign missions, international courts and the Interpol in this regard,” he added.
Members of the party advisory council Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta, Abdul Jalil and Quazi Akramuddin Ahmed, presidium members home minister Sahara Khatun, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Commerce Minister Faruk Khan, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, Food Minister Abdur Razzak, Sheikh Selim, Mahiuddin Khan Alamgir, Kazi Zafar Ullah and Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun were among the leaders who paid the tributes.
