DHAKA: Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh alleged people cannot attain ‘Taqwa’ by getting rid of usury and adultery because of the state law.

“One of the principles of Ramadan is to keep people off charging interest and acts of adultery, but the state law intervenes,” said acting secretary-general of the beleaguered Islamic party ATM Azharul Islam at an iftar party and discussion Saturday.

Paltan Thana Jamaat organised the iftar and discussion on “Significance of Ramadan” at the party’s city office in Purana Paltan area.

Among others, Dhaka Metropolitan Jamaat secretary Hamidur Rahman Azad MP, assistant secretary Nurul Islam Bulbul, Maulana Abdul Halim and Sura member Farid Hossain spoke at the function with Paltan Thana president Shafiqul Islam Masud in the chair.
