DHAKA: Opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia Thursday said the government should quit for what she said its inefficiency in running the country.
"The government is a failure in all respects. They have become incompetent to rule the country and so they should step down from power," said the BNP chairperson and former Prime Minister.
She made the comment while speaking at a discussion meeting and Iftar Mahfil organized by Swecchasebak Dal at Mahanagar Natyamancha in observance of the 30th anniversary of founding of the party’s associate body.
She observed that the country is beset with various problems and the common people are helpless in the face of price hike of essentials.
"The people are suffering a lot for power, water and gas shortages. The city hit a standstill due to traffic jams," she said, painting a grim picture of the country.
Begum Zia, who is leading an anti-government movement, staying away from parliament, came to the conclusion that the government could do nothing for the people of the country. "The government is busy looting--and they proved a failure."
BNP Secretary-General Khandaker Delwar Hossain, Standing Committee Member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, MK Anwar MP and Nazrul Islam Khan, among others, spoke at the programme with Swecchasebak Dal president Habibunnabi Sohel in the chair.
