Jamaat leader Rafiqul on 3-day remand

DHAKA: Dhaka city Jamaat-e-Islami chief Rafiqul Islam Khan was Thursday remanded for three days in the case of torching a car in pre-hartal violence.

Third Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali Hussain passed the order of remand as the Detective Branch of police produced him before the court with a seven-day remand plea.
 
The case was filed with Ramna thana for torching a private car on the day before June 27 hartal that killed one of its passengers.

Rafiqul Islam on August 23 got anticipatory bails in six cases filed on charges of obstructing police from discharging their duties and hurting religious sentiment of Muslims.

On Wednesday noon, police arrested the Jamaat leader from his Mirpur residence, just a day after the High Court granted him anticipatory bail in the case.
