BNP to mark TariqueÔÇÖs jail release day Friday

DHAKA: The opposition BNP is set to observe the jail-release day of its chairperson Khaleda Zia’s elder son and party senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman on September 3 (Friday).

Various programmes, including rally and discussion, have been chalked out to observe the day marking Tarique’s release from jail on parole for treatment abroad during the emergency rule.

BNP lawmakers will hold a discussion at Mahanagar Natyamanch in the city at 11am Friday. The second one will be held at Katabon’s ICMAB auditorium.

Besides, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal will bring out a rally on the occasion.

On 7 September 2007, Tarique was arrested on charges of corruption and misuse of power and sent to jail during the army-backed caretaker government’s rule, when many top politicians and other big wigs were held, including his mother and ex-PM Khaleda Zia and present premier Sheikh Hasina.

Later on 3 September 2008, he was set free on parole and has been in London since for better treatment.
