Jamaat leader Rafiqul sent to jail

DHAKA: Dhaka city Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Rafiqul Islam Khan was Thursday sent to jail after three days’ remand in two cases filed with Ramna and New Market Thanas.

Metropolitan magistrate Ismail Hossain passed the order on Thursday noon.

The court asked investigation officer (IO) of the case for interrogating Rafiqul at jail gate, rejecting 5-day remand plea in cases of vandalizing and torching a car in pre-hartal violence.

Rafiqul Islam got anticipatory bails on August 23 in six cases filed on charges of obstructing police from discharging their duties and hurting religious sentiment of Muslims.

On August 25, police arrested the Jamaat leader from his Mirpur residence just a day after the High Court granted him anticipatory bail in the case.
