DHAKA: Estranged former state minister for Home Affairs Tanjim Ahmed alias Sohel Taj might join the cabinet again, his aides indicated, as he returned home Friday.
A Gazipur district Awami League leader close to Taj said he would “fully concentrate on politics now and attend the cabinet”.
But his view could not be confirmed from the high-ups of the ruling party and the government.
More than one minister told banglanews24.com.bd that they feel embarrassed if they are asked about Tanjim Ahmed’s joining in the cabinet.
Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, acting General Secretary of the AL, told banglanews24.com.bd that he did not know anything about the matter.
“Party chief knows well about Sohel Taj,” he said.
Sohel Taj returned home early Friday from the United States of America.
The aircraft carrying Taj landed at Shahjalal International Airport at 5:15 am. People, including Awami League leaders and activists from his native place Capasia, received him at the airport.
The lawmaker is expected to attend an Iftar party Tuesday at his village Dardaria in Capasia, said Capasia thana AL president Ajgar Rashid.
Sohel, son of Bangladesh’s founding prime minister Tajuddin Ahmed, tendered his resignation from the cabinet of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reportedly in a huff on May 31 last year.
After he had left the country, Shamsul Haque Tuku was appointed State Minister of the Home Ministry on August 1 last year.
