DHAKA: Former MP Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury was barred from going abroad at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday morning as his name figures on the list of war criminals.
“Immigration authorities obstructed him from taking a flight to Saudi Arabia for performing Umrah,” an airport source said.
Government authorities have provided a list of 40 war-crime suspects, including Giasuddin Chowdhury, elder brother of opposition BNP lawmaker Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, to the immigration so that they cannot leave the country.
The restrictive measure has been taken now that investigations into war crimes are on as part of the current trial process.
