BNP leader killed in meeting bombing, 3 held

MEHERPUR: A local BNP leader was killed and three others were injured in a bomb attack on their meeting on Saturday night at Brazopur in Gangni upazila.

Police held three persons in connection with the meeting bombings.

The deceased, Lukman Hossain, 36, was president of Brazopur village unit of the opposition party under Kazipur union. The three injured--Rafiqul, Tuhin and Intaz--were admitted into the local hospital.

Member of Parliament from Meherpur-2 constituency and president of the district BNP Amzad Hossain said, “Awami League terrors conducted the bomb attack on a preparatory meeting of the local BNP in a planned way.”

Shahiduzzaman Khokon, the upazila AL president, denied and hurled back the allegation. “BNP activists blasted those bombs but tried to shift the blame to us,” said frontier-district leader of the ruling party.

The OC of Gangni thana, Matiar Rahman, said one of the arrested persons was identified as Atiar Rahman. Identities of the two others were not disclosed “for the sake of security in investigation”.

Commander of RAB-6 Sheikh Jahid told banglanews24.com.bd that the terrorists blasted three bombs at about 10:30 pm. Elite-force RAB and police personnel were deployed there, as tensions mounted.
