DHAKA: A senior BNP leader Sunday alleged that the ruling Awami League is treating the opposition party as ‘enemy’, not competitor.
Party standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan came up with the comment while addressing a discussion in the city’s Diploma Engineers Institute marking Tarique’s release day.
“Awami League does not believe in democracy though speaking of democracy round the clock,” he said.
Khan looked back and observed that Awami League established ‘Baksal’ regime though it came to power in 1972 with majority. So speaking of democracy cannot go with the party.
BNP senior joint secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the function said, “The government’s intention is not clear after court cancelled the 5th and 7th amendments to the constitution.
“It has not taken any decision though a committee was formed for the constitutional amendment.”
He also questioned whether the country is heading towards a constitutional crisis.
Juba Dal president Moazzem Hossain Alal and its general secretary Saiful Alam Nirob also spoke.
