Jamaat-cop clash injures 10 in city

DHAKA: At least 10 people including cops were injured in a clash between law enforcers and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir in city’s Elephant road area on Wednesday morning.

Witnesses said the clash ensued when the Jamaat-Shibir men, from a protest procession, hurled brick chips at the law enforcers after being resisted by them at around 9:00am.

At one stage of chasing by police, they vandalized couple of vehicles.

Later, police fired rounds of rubber bullets and tear shell canister to disperse them.

Jamaat-e-Islami declared countrywide protest programme for Wednesday protesting the cutting of convicted Jamaat leader as war criminals from voter list.

As part of central declared progs, Dhaka city unit Jamaat brought out the protest procession at Elephant road in the capital.
