DHAKA: Opposition BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday categorically said his party would enforce nonstop blockade from October 25 if the caretaker government bill is not placed before parliament in the upcoming session.
The senior leader of the party came up with the forewarning while addressing a discussion meeting organized by Jubo Dal marking the 6th Jail Release Day of party’s Senior Vice Chairperson Tarique Rahman held at the Suhrawardy Udyan in the afternoon.
The 19th session of 9th parliament will start on September 12 at 5.00pm and scheduled to be ended on October 24.
The spokesperson for the party also forewarned that all the vehicles, including railway, would be halted under the strike.
He said, “The people will never accept the next general election under partisan government. We also won’t accept that.”
The election must take place under the non-partisan caretaker government system, he added.
Indicating the Jubo Dal men, he said, “Take preparations for movements. Tarique Rahman had to suffer a lot only because he wanted to introduce a new kind of politics for the people of the country.”
He also said that Tarique would come back whenever he would recover completely.
With Jubo Dal President Moazzem Hossain Alal in the chair, the funbction was also addressed, among others, by BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas and member secretary of Dhaka City BNP Advocate Abdus Slam.
