DHAKA: BNP Secretary-General Khandakar Delwar Hossain Saturday alleged that the police administration is out to foil Sunday’s hartal by arresting party leaders and activists.
“Police are putting up barricades in different areas and raiding the houses of party activists so that they cannot join the hartal programmes,” he told journalists while carrying out mass contact in the city’s Bijoynagar area in the morning to drum up Sunday’s countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal.
Delwar said BNP wants to observe the strike peacefully. But, police have already detained hundreds of leaders and activists from across the country by conducting drives to foil the hartal, he added.
Sounding a note of warning, Delwar said, "The government will have to bear the consequences if any government officials or police administration tried to hinder the hartal programme."
