DHAKA: The BNP-led four-party alliance Saturday selected 112 spots in the capital for picketing to enforce Sunday’s general strike.
Also, the top leaders of the allied parties were assigned to lead picketing on the designated spots.
The spots were selected as part of their preparation for the countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal, the first major political move against the seventeen-month-old government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said BNP sources.
Of BNP leaders, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will lead the picketing in city’s northern part-Abdullahpur, House-building, Azampur, Rajlakkhi, Airport and Khilkhet--Sayed Mozzam Hossain Alal in western areas-- Mohammadpur, Adabar, Rayerbazar and north Dhanmondi, Mirza Abbas in Khilgaon, Jurine, Shajahanpur, Goran and Rajerbag areas--Khandaker Mosharaf Hossain in Jatrabari and Sanirakhra areas, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia at Mirpur, party chief whip Joinal Abedin Faruq in Dhanmondi and Kalabagan areas, and Ahmed Chowdhury and Goutam Chakroborthi in Lalbag area jointly.
Besides, the top leaders of major ally Jamaat Islami will also lead the picketing in different parts of the city.
The hartal has been called on a number of issues and demands that include ensuring supply of gas, electricity and water, to stop extortion, tender manipulation and grabbing allegedly by the ruling party `terrorists`, scrapping `anti-nation` agreements signed with India and containing the price hike of essentials.
