MADRID: World number one tennis player Rafael Nadal hailed Spain`s victory over Germany in the World Cup semi-final which he said would help "cheer up" the country amid its economic crisis.

The team "made possible the dream of being in the World Cup final," the Spaniard told journalists in his native island of Majorca on Thursday.

"It will cheer up a country" that is embroiled in an economic crisis, with 20 percent unemployment.

Spain`s historic 1-0 win over Germany on Wednesday sent the team through to the final for the first time ever.

As for the final against Holland on Sunday, "I think we`re the best and we will win," said Nadal. "We have a comprehensive squad and we deserve it."

The recently crowned Wimbledon champion also referred to his new role as a shareholder in first division football side Mallorca.

"If my contribution and image can make the club move forward a bit better, then it is an honour for me," he said.

Mallorca is attempting to overcome severe financial difficulties which in May forced the club into administration with debts estimated by the Spanish media at between 50 and 60 million euros.

In June, the club, which finished fifth in the league last season, was taken over by a consortium led by former coach and Mallorca native, Lorenzo Serra Ferrer.
