PRETORIA: Olympics chief Jacques Rogge Saturday said South Africa had made the continent proud by hosting the World Cup on the eve of the final between the Netherlands and Spain.
"It is something that will be remembered for a very long time. It will make all Africa proud and the entire sports movement is very happy about that," he told journalists after meeting with President Jacob Zuma.
Zuma has suggested that South Africa would now like to bid for an Olympics, a move which has been endorsed by Rogge, though neither mentioned the issue Saturday.
The race to stage the 2020 Olympic Games is set to open next year, with the deadline for the submission of applications to the IOC falling in 2013.
