MEXICO CITY: Newly-crowned World Cup champions Spain played to a 1-1 draw with Mexico on Wednesday in a friendly international at Azteca Stadium marking the bicentennial of Mexican independence.
Manchester United`s Javier Hernandez put the hosts ahead in the 12th minute, and it wasn`t until injury time that David Silva delivered the equalizer for Spain.
Spain, playing for the first time since their triumph in South Africa, arrived on Monday and had little time to adjust to the Mexico City altitude.
Spain started only three players who started the July 11 World Cup final victory over the Netherlands - goalkeeper Iker Casillas, defender Carles Puyol and midfielder Sergio Busquets.
In the second half Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque made eight substitutions, bringing on World Cup starters Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso and Xavi Hernandez.
