Around 1758 people, including 20 top leaders of BNP and Jamaat have been arrested from different parts of the capital, Dhaka, in connection with 154 cases lodged so far centering the quota reform movement.
A total of 601 people, out of the total 1758, were arrested in combing operations elsewhere in the capital over the last 24 hours, according to the source of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
While talking to reporters KN Roy Niaty, additional deputy commissioner (Media) of the DMP, said the combing operation will continue against those involved in the subversive activities on the streets in the name of the student movement.
BNP Standing Committee Members Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, its senior leaders Aman Ullah Aman, Zahir Uddin Swapan are among the arrestees.
Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that law enforcement agencies have arrested around 2,000 leaders and activists of the party, implicating them in cases related to the recent student movement.
