Shah Alam, the former officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara East Police Station, has escaped from police custody after being arrested in connection with several serious charges, including murder.
The incident took place on Thursday while police were preparing to present him in court for a case involving the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Sub-Inspector Abdul Karim confirmed hearing about the escape but declined to offer further details.
Sources from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) revealed that Shah Alam was arrested outside the capital on Wednesday night and was facing multiple charges, including a murder case filed in September 2024.
Shah Alam, who assumed the position of OC in August 2024, managed to escape using a planned strategy, as confirmed by DMP officials. In response, an assistant sub-inspector on duty was suspended for negligence.
Authorities are actively searching for the former OC, with efforts to recapture him underway.
