Reforms must precede elections, says Sarjis Alam

Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer of the National Citizens' Committee and General Secretary of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation, said that elections in Bangladesh must be held at a logical time but only after restoring the systems allegedly destroyed by "Killer Hasina."

He made the remark while speaking at a student rally in Rajendra College Field, Faridpur, on Monday (January 6) afternoon.

During speech Sarjis declared Bangladesh would no longer follow a submissive foreign policy.

He said, "We will determine our foreign policy on equal terms, and any attempt by global powers to dominate Bangladesh's policies will be outrightly rejected."

He also called for constitutional recognition of the July Revolution and its martyrs, demanding the inclusion of the uprising's declaration in the Constitution.

Sarjis further stressed the significance of the anti-fascist student movement, which unified the nation, and insisted its role must be acknowledged in history.
