A man has been fined Tk 2.5 lakh for illegally extracting sand from the Shrimai Canal in Patiya of Chattogram.
Three dumper trucks used for transporting the sand were also seized during an operation.
The raid was conducted late Monday night near Giri Chowdhury Bazar along the Patiya-Cox’s Bazar highway.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Plabon Kumar Biswas confirmed the matter.
He said man named SM Reza Ripon has been arrested and such drives will continue in the public interest to prevent illegal sand and soil extraction in the area.
