NARSINGDI: Country’s tenuous electricity supply took a knock as a major unit of Ghorasal power hub tripped Sunday following a baffling fire incident.
Official sources said the fire broke out at unit-6 at about 3pm and burnt the turbine rotor. The blaze halted generation of 210-megawatt power.
Tomal Karmaker, Chief Engineer of Ghorasal Power Plant, told banglanews24.com.bd that, on information, firefighters rushed in and doused the flames at about 6 pm.
“The extent of damage could not be estimated yet,” said Karmaker.
He thinks it will take a couple of months to resume operation of the unit after repairs.
