DHAKA: The Government has gone for enhancing health and housing facilities for officials and employees by establishing a modern hospital and constructing multistoried buildings in the capital.
An official source said the initiatives have been taken mainly for those government officials and employees who are posted outside the capital but compelled to maintain their families in Dhaka.
Copies of a letter containing necessary instructions have already been sent to the Ministries of Establishment and Housing and Public Works from the PM Office, said the source.
The letter, sent on July 4, also asked the ministries to send the numbers of government officials and employees posted outside Dhaka by July 23.
Agargaon is mentioned as the site for construction of a multistoried building for the government officials and staff members.
The PMO has asked the ministries concerned to present the matters regarding correct information about the number of families and land allotment with related photographs and maps, the sources said.
On receiving the directives, the Establishment Ministry instructed the ministries, departments and offices concerned to send the necessary information by July 23.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her meeting with the secretaries at the secretariat Sunday discussed the plan.
After the meeting, Cabinet Division Secretary M Abdul Aziz told journalists that the PM said the government would take initiative to raise the medical facilities for the government officials and employees.
“Money from the government’s special fund and the welfare fund of government officials would be spent to implement the project,” he said.
The PM also assured providing necessary assistance from the government side in implementing the project, Aziz said.
